Compounding
Compounding has long been an essential component of the pharmacy profession. The practice of pharmacy has traditionally included the need for compounding medications that are not commercially available. Prior to 1965, approximately 40% of all prescriptions were made by hand. Over time this skill has been utilized to a lesser degree due to large scale manufacturing of prescription medications. Compounding, or the preparation of medications from the raw chemical ingredients, one again is becoming an integral part of pharmacy practice.
The pharmacists at Jones Pharmacy have been specially trained in compounding unique medications to fit your needs. We will gladly answer any questions that you have regarding compounding and work with your physician to create a dosage form that incorporates your needs to ensure successful medication therapy.

Why use a Compounded Medication?
Large scale manufacturing often is unable to address the specific needs of each pet. Limitations may include the strength of the medication, dosage form, flavoring, and lack of preservative or color free options. In addition, medications may be discontinued and removed from the market.

Convenient Devices & Delivery Systems
We offer a variety of unique devices that will help simplify medication administration and provide flexible dosing options when needed. For example, an “Adapta-Cap” top provides a simple way to accurately measure liquid medication. This is especially useful when your dosage changes. Oral and topical syringes are also available to aid with proper dosing. Many other delivery systems are available, too! If your physician has something in mind it’s likely that it can be formulated to meet your specific needs.
