Welcome to Jones Pharmacy
PHARMACY ROTATIONS
& RESIDENCY

Jones Pharmacy has always taken an active role in promoting the pharmacy profession and mentoring aspiring pharmacists. Jones remains a competitive rotation site for Washington State University (WSU) College of Pharmacy Externs and Residents. Pharmacy Externs gain valuable experience in the pharmacy throughout the year. Providing a Community Pharmacy Residency exemplifies Jones’ commitment to the profession and new pharmacists.

A Community Pharmacy
Residency is an accredited
program that allows a new
pharmacist to explore the
possibilities of the
profession and make them
a reality.Interested in changing the way pharmacy is practiced, Jones Pharmacy pharmacists have developed and implemented niches to better serve patients. Smoking cessation, diabetes self-management, wellness education, immunizations, specialty compounding, emergency contraception and rapid strep testing are examples of some of the programs that are offered. The pharmacists at Jones Pharmacy currently practice with prescriptive authority for vaccines, emergency contraception, and streptococcal throat infections.

The residency program provides new pharmacists with the flexibility, time, resources, and support needed to develop innovative pharmacist care activities.  In addition, the program allows pharmacists to strengthen their management knowledge and skills. Residents are also encouraged to pursue practice areas that they find interesting and build upon clinical knowledge and skills.  This residency program will offer the pharmacist a unique opportunity to learn and practice contemporary, entrepreneurial pharmacy in the community setting.

Numerous teaching and mentoring opportunities are available, for our Residents, both with Washington State University College of Pharmacy and the surrounding community.

Jones Pharmacy preceptors include K. Douglas Crafton, co-owner, R.Ph, W.D. Evans, co-owner, Linda Garrelts MacLean, R.Ph, CDE, and Catrina Schwartz, Pharm.D. (see Pharmacy Staff)

K. Douglas Crafton has co-owned Jones Pharmacy and Home Health Care Center since January 2002 with his business partner, W.D. Evans. Doug has worked in many capacities within the corporate healthcare and technology fields, including sales, marketing and executive level management prior to purchasing Jones.  He is active in many state organizations and currently serves as the Vice President and CE Chairman for the Spokane Pharmacy Association. In addition, Doug is an Adjunct Clinical Professor with the Department of Pharmacotherapy at the WSU College of Pharmacy.

WD “Dub” Evans has been involved in all phases of community pharmacy management.  He worked with a Northwest chain of pharmacies for 12 years in many capacities, which included new store development, operations, personnel management, and store management.  Before purchasing Jones Pharmacy in Spokane in January 2002, Mr. Evans served as the director of operations for Jones Pharmacies in Spokane and Deer Park.  Working with Mr. Evans will afford the resident the opportunity to become knowledgeable about the business aspects of owning or managing a community pharmacy.

Linda Garrelts MacLean is the former owner of Jones Pharmacies located in Spokane and Deer Park. She is active in many state and national pharmacy organizations and has served as president of the Washington State Pharmacists Association. Linda has always been and continues to be a pioneer in the pharmacy profession and was voted the “Most Influential Woman Pharmacist,” in 1997, in The Pharmacy Times. Linda currently is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacotherapy at WSU College of Pharmacy. In 2003, Linda was honored with the Washington State University “Distiguished Alumni” award for her many accomplishments and contributions in promoting the profession of pharmacy.

Catrina Schwartz graduated from the University of Washington Pharmacy School in 2002.  She then completed a community pharmacy residency at Jones Pharmacy from 2002-2003. During the residency, she implemented a rapid strep throat testing protocol with prescriptive authority. Jones Pharmacy is the first pharmacy in Washington State to offer this service.  In addition, Catrina assisted with teaching EWU and WSU students at the Riverpoint campus. She currently staffs at Jones and Shriners Hospitals for Children.
